The most important use of chamomile today is as a remedy for stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers, in gastrointestinal catarrh, to relieve colic, to heal external wounds and other skin ailments, as a relaxing agent, and to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu. According to the well-known German doctor Rudolf Weiss, chamomile should be the first choice when it comes to reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and promoting the long-term healing of stomach ulcers. Chamomile not only alleviates the symptoms of stomach ulcers, but produces a real cure. Dr. Weiss writes that one must, however, use large amounts of chamomile over a long period of time in order to effectively heal stomach ulcers.
Description
Matricaria recutita
Chamomile is native to wildlife in Europe, Asia and Northwest Africa, and is now naturalized in the United States. The herb is grown commercially in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Turkey, Spain, Egypt and Argentina. The newly sprouted flowers are picked with a stem no more than 2 cm long. The collection must take place in completely dry weather and the flower baskets must be laid out immediately afterwards to dry.
PROPERTIES AND EFFECT OF THE HERB
The ingredients in chamomile give the herb a very wide range of medicinal properties: The essential oil has a relaxing effect, but is also slightly antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and digestive. Other reported effects: Anti-inflammatory, sedative, antispasmodic, relaxing, hypnotic, nerve-strengthening, digestive, anti-allergic, analgesic, wound-healing, anti-itch, antiseptic, bactericidal, antifungal, diuretic, antiperspirant and reduces intestinal gas.
